It would seem that there is an ongoing argument between what is the best French door; is it the sliding or the prehung? For those that aren’t familiar with French doors, these are types of doors which usually feature double doors and contain multiple panes around thin wooden frames. A common look of French doors would be one that appears to have two doors and a grid pattern in the middle of the material. Today, different appearances and designs of these doors can be found on the market. From the simple to the extravagant; these doors have definitely evolved during the years. There are even French doors that would be considered as artistic already, considering that it has numerous designs and protrusions that are more akin to a sculpture already. Previously, only upper middle class and upper class people were able to buy these doors but today, the availability of numerous styles and looks has managed to entice the customer into purchasing them.

Regardless of the style and shape of the French door, it has been classified into two main classifications: prehung and sliding. The prehung design of the French door is devoid of the traditional mechanisms of a door as it opts for a more space-saving method. Instead of swinging this door, it slides from side to side instead. It’s very similar to a sliding window, except that this one is an actual door and usually made of wood. The prehung French door is the basic form of this kind of door. It uses hinges for it to be opened and closed and they are rather swung forward or backward. Each of these French door classifications has their own strengths and weaknesses and one strong point of the sliding is that it saves space, while the prehung is more durable.
